Austin-based Voodoo Dolls Band has been a staple of the Austin music scene for more than 20 years.
After a five-year hiatus, the band is back with a new EP and an album of new material, the first in eight years.
The new Voodoo Donuts Band EP, “We Don’t Go Around,” drops May 6 on the band’s label, RCA Records.
Voodoo Band co-founder Scott Bierstadt says the band had a lot to look forward to this year, including the release of a new album, new videos for new songs and new touring.
The band, he says, wants to “bring a little bit of Austin back” and create something that is unique to Austin.
Bierstadt said he and band member Davey Crockett had planned to make an Austin stop, but decided to take a break and do some touring.
They spent the summer touring and recording new material with producer Matt Ritchie.
“We didn’t want to be in Austin at all,” Bierstad says.
“We were like, ‘Why not?’
We wanted to do a lot of different things.
It’s hard for me to even describe what it’s like, and the other stuff we did was really cool.
The people in Austin, the festivals, everything is different.”
The band is still playing shows but has not booked an Austin date yet.
The next show will be at the Austin Arts District on April 26.
